Important: The amounts below are government fingerprint/background-check processing fees, not our service fee. Pasadena Live Scan Service charges a separate $21 rolling fee. Your exact government fee is determined by the information on your Request for Live Scan Service form, including the requesting agency, ORI code, applicant type, and whether DOJ, FBI, CACI, firearms eligibility, or another check is required. Separate license or application fees charged directly by a licensing agency are not included here.

Who Pays the Fees?

Agency Billing Numbers & Applicant-Paid Fees

The California DOJ explains that some requesting agencies pay fingerprint processing fees through a billing account, while other applicants pay the government fees at the Live Scan location.

If Your Form Has a Valid Billing Number

Your organization may have arranged for the California DOJ to bill the government processing fees directly.

  • You may only need to pay our $21 rolling fee at the office.
  • We will review the form before processing your transaction.
  • The billing number must be valid for the requesting agency and transaction.

If Your Form Does Not Have a Billing Number

You will typically be responsible for the applicable government processing fee plus our rolling fee.

  • Government fee is determined by the applicant type on your form.
  • Additional CACI, firearms, or other processing fees may apply.
  • Separate license/application fees paid directly to an agency may also exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

California Live Scan Fee Questions

How much is the Pasadena Live Scan rolling fee?
Our standard rolling fee is $21 per Live Scan transaction. Government fingerprint processing fees are separate unless your requesting agency uses a valid billing number.
Why do some Live Scan applications cost $32 and others cost $49?
A common California DOJ-only fingerprint processing fee is $32. When a transaction also requires the standard FBI fingerprint check, the combined government processing amount is commonly $49 ($32 DOJ + $17 FBI). Your form determines which checks are required.
Why is a security guard with a firearms permit $87 in government fees?
California BSIS lists $32 for the DOJ fingerprint fee, $17 for the FBI fingerprint fee, and $38 for firearms eligibility, totaling $87 before the Live Scan provider's rolling fee.
Does a billing number mean I do not pay government fees?
Often, a valid agency billing number means the requesting organization has arranged to be billed for the government processing fees. We still review the form at your appointment to confirm what applies to your transaction.
Are licensing application fees included in this table?
No. This page focuses on fingerprint/background-check government processing fees. A licensing board, DMV, state bureau, or other requesting agency may charge separate application, license, permit, or renewal fees directly.
What should I bring so my exact Live Scan fee can be confirmed?
Bring the original Request for Live Scan Service form provided by your employer, licensing board, school, or requesting agency, along with a valid government-issued photo ID. The form contains the codes and applicant type used to determine the correct submission and fees.
