When You Likely Need Live Scan
- Your form says “Request for Live Scan Service” at the top.
- The agency mentions a California DOJ or DOJ/FBI background check.
- You’re applying for state licensing, daycare, real estate, caregiving, or school work.
In these cases you almost always need electronic Live Scan fingerprinting. Bring your agency form, valid ID, and any payment instructions they provided.
When You Likely Need FD-258 Ink Cards or FBI Channeling
- Your paperwork specifically mentions FD-258 or “FBI fingerprint card.”
- The receiving agency is out-of-state or federal.
- You are mailing your fingerprints to an address provided by the agency.
- You’re completing a personal review or federal background check via FBI channeling.
In these cases, ink fingerprints on FD-258 cards or channeling services are usually required. We can provide the cards if you don’t already have them.
